Starting from January 1, 2020, TURKPATENT has decided to use the EPATS for online transactions, and thus, any online transaction through TURKPATENT will only be carried out through the EPATS, which offers great innovation.
EPATS is available at <https://epats.turkpatent.gov.tr>.
Cemil Başpınar, Vice President of the Turkish Patent and Trademark Agency, said at the meeting held on 18 December 2019 at the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, “Our EPATS application is carried out through e-government authentication. There is an area in the system where you can manage your applications to the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office.”[1]
As it is known, so far, these online transactions have been carried out through Online Document System (CES) but as of 1 January 2020, access to CES will not be available.
Updates in EPATS continue without slowing down and a few of the updates that TURKPATENT made after the contact meetings are as follows:[2]
- Appeal Process is added for Patents.
- Obligation to enter postal code in the entry field of patent, trademark and design owner information has been removed.
- The character limit is removed from the 99th class entry field for trademark applications.
- Representative information and information regarding the invoice to be issued are added to application forms.
There is no doubt that recent technological advances have led to the need to update the online systems of organizations. At this point, this innovative approach of TURKPATENT will be welcomed by all concerned.
